Colour Fastness of Silk Fabrics Dyed with Extracts from Oil Palm Tree Kernel Shell and Effect of Metal Ion Mordanting on Fabric Colour

The colour fastness of silk fabrics dyed with extracts obtained from the palm kernel shell (PKS) African oil tree was evaluated at first in order to clarify dyeing characteristics this dyestuff. It found test washing that fabric became deeper number by basic Marseille soap solution and no fading occurred after up thirty washings. sample also darker until 10 h exposure artificial sunlight illumination a simulator then brightened very gradually 150 light. While rubbing for low under wet conditions, it high dry conditions. PKS contain component substances which have reducing properties. Such unoxidised dye precursors are adsorbed onto process oxidised be colouring matters during light irradiation. On other hand, attempts stabilisation treatments prevent darkening showed treating PKS-dyed Na2CO3·1.5H2O2 most effective. This treatment oxidises prevents change due further oxidation. Furthermore, turned black, dark brown, brown or brown-close black FeCl2, CuCl2, AlCl3 VOSO4 aqueous solution, respectively. These mordant effects metallic ions post-mordanting more effective colour.
